There’s something about a Sarah J. Maas sequel that feels like being pulled into a whirlwind of plot twists, emotional chaos, and absolutely swoon-worthy moments. House of Sky and Breath was no exception. I started this book thinking I’d read a few chapters before bed… and suddenly it was 2am! #NoRegrets
“Light it up.”
What I Loved
There’s a richness to this book that builds beautifully on the foundation of House of Earth and Blood. Bryce and Hunt’s relationship? Even more electric this time around. But what really blew me away was the way the story expanded. The stakes are higher. The secrets run deeper. And the world is wider than I ever imagined. Sarah J. Maas is a master of weaving plot lines together so intricately that you barely notice the trap you’re walking into – until she drops THAT ending. (If you know, you know.)
“Through love, all is possible.”
What I Didn’t Love
There’s A LOT going on in this book. And while I was hooked the whole time, some sections felt a little dense. The pacing slows in a few places as we hop between perspectives and subplots. But to be honest, I’d read 700 pages of Bryce just grocery shopping if it meant more time in this world.
“You do not yield.”
Final Thoughts
This book is about power. How we fight for it. How we use it. How we protect those we love with it. But underneath all the supernatural battles and shocking reveals, it’s also about loyalty, choice, and the type of love that demands everything. It’s clear Sarah J. Maas is laying the groundwork for something epic, and I am SO here for it.
Who this book is for:
- Readers who love high-stakes fantasy with strong female leads
- Fans of slow-burn, high-chemistry romance
- Anyone emotionally prepared for a jaw-dropping cliffhanger
This was a WILD ride. One that built beautifully on the first book and left me gasping by the final chapter. House of Sky and Breath delivers everything I love in fantasy. Layered characters, high emotional stakes, and a twist that shook me to my core. If the first book was a spark, this one is a full-blown firestorm.
This was easily a FIVE STAR read!
Have you recovered from that ending yet? Or are we all collectively screaming?
