You know those books you pick up expecting fantasy chaos and suddenly you’re crying in your kitchen while making coffee? That was A Court of Silver Flames for me. As a mom, wife, and recovering perfectionist, Nesta’s journey punched me in the gut in the most unexpected way. I wasn’t ready, but apparently I needed it.

“You do not fear. You do not falter. You do not yield.”

What I Loved

Nesta’s character arc is one of the best I’ve ever read. It’s raw, messy, and deeply empowering. Sarah J. Maas doesn’t shy away from grief, trauma, or the work it takes to heal – and it shows. The female friendships (hello, Valkyries!), Cassian’s steadfast love, and the mental health themes were masterfully woven into a steamy high-stakes fantasy plot. I also loved the deep world-building expansion beyond the Night Court. This book felt more adult in all the best ways.

“The power lay in her hands. A gift – and a choice.”

What I Didn’t Love

At times, the pacing felt slow, especially in the middle. Some readers might feel bogged down by the heavy emotional processing, but for me, it made the payoff even more satisfying. Also, this one is definitely NOT young adult, so keep that in mind if you’re transitioning from the earlier books in the series.

“She was not hunting for a place to belong. She was declaring that she belonged anywhere she damn well pleased.”

Final Thoughts

This is a story of reclamation. Nesta’s struggle with self-worth, guilt, and rage is painfully relatable. And her triumph is beautifully earned. Themes of sisterhood, inner strength, healing through movement and connection, and learning to let others in truly shine. This book isn’t about fairy tales. It’s about fighting for yourself – even when no one else does

This book is for readers who:

  • Love emotionally rich fantasy with strong character growth
  • Fell in love with Nesta (or hated her – you might change your mind like I did!)
  • Are looking for a story about healing, self-love, and second chances

A Court of Silver Flames was fiery, fierce, and full of heart. Nesta and Cassian’s story is more than romance – it’s a reclamation of identity. I loved every empowering, rage-fueled, tender moment.

RATING: FIVE STARS!!!!

Have you read Nesta’s story yet? Did it change how you felt about her?
