Reuniting with old friends always stirs up memories of who we were and who we thought we’d become. In Vegas Girls, Heather Skyler takes us on a heartfelt journey back to Las Vegas, a city brimming with lights, nostalgia, and history. As a Capricorn, I love reflecting on the past while charting a path forward. This book felt like a mirror for those moments of self-discovery. Set against the backdrop of the glittering city that shaped their youth, Vegas Girls beautifully explores the bond of friendship and the choices that define us.

“The choices we make last a lifetime, but it’s never too late to choose again.”

What I Loved

Skyler’s ability to capture Las Vegas beyond its touristy glitz is stunning. She paints the city as a nuanced character – raw, vibrant, and deeply intertwined with the lives of three women at the heart of the story. Each character feels authentic, grappling with real-life issues that many of us can relate to: motherhood, career struggles, and the lingering “what ifs” of paths not taken.

I especially loved how Skyler seamlessly weaves their past and present, building an emotionally layered story that feels personal and universal at the same time. As a lover of complex characters and introspective stories, this one delivered.

“Friendship is less about staying the same and more about showing up when it matters most.”

What I Didn’t Love

While the book’s character-driven narrative was its greatest strength, at times, I found myself wishing for a bit more action or plot twists to balance the introspection. Some parts felt slower-paced than others, which made it a little harder to stay fully engaged. However, the emotional payoff was worth the journey.

“Sometimes, the hardest person to forgive is the one staring back in the mirror.”

Final Thoughts

At its core, Vegas Girls is about the power of friendship and the resilience it takes to reconcile who we were with who we’ve become. Themes of self-discovery, forgiveness, and the enduring impact of our roots shine through. It’s a reminder that no matter how much time passes or how far we wander, the bonds we form and the choices we make shape us in profound ways. As someone who’s constantly balancing nostalgia with forward momentum, this book struck a chord.

This book is for:

  • Fans of character-driven stories that explore personal growth
  • Readers who enjoy stories about lifelong friendships and reunions
  • Those who love books set in vibrant, unique locations like Las Vegas

Vegas Girls is a poignant, beautifully written exploration of friendship, identity, and the ties that bind us to our past. Heather Skyler delivers an introspective narrative that’s equal parts tender and though-provoking. While slower in parts, it’s a rewarding read for anyone who’s ever looked back at their younger self and wondered, “How did I get here?”

It’s 4 out of 5 stars for me!
